IHI Energy Storage was founded in February 2014 as a Systems Integrator providing complete turn-key energy storage systems for the Electric Grid – both in front of and behind the meter. While our mission is global in nature, our initial focus is the US market.
IHI’s corporate Lithium Battery business unit is based in Tokyo and is chartered with providing lithium ion battery products/solutions for the automotive, commercial and electric grid global market worldwide since 2009. IHI eventually determined that a more strategic benefit would come from becoming a solution provider of energy storage systems. Thus, IHI Energy Storage was formed, with locations in Boston and Chicago.
Being a systems integrator means the IHI Energy Storage team can offer complete turn-key systems from concept through design, development, deployment, operation and support. The organization was staffed with individuals who have years of experience in grid-scale energy storage, prior to coming to IHI. Their experience and know-how are the basis for this growing business unit within IHI.
IHI Energy Storage can customize a solution to customer’s specific needs, pulling from the best technical and economic components in the industry. At the core of IHI’s solution is its proprietary software and control subsystem, ESWare. The ESWare suite of software tools is designed to give the customer a rewarding experience in the process of purchasing, operating and maintaining their energy storage system.
