IHI’s product offering is based on our proprietary ESWare™ suite of software which specializes in pre-sale analysis, financial-based optimization and real-time control of energy storage systems. Using these tools, IHI ensures that the system designed and delivered actually conforms to the financial and technical constraints used to build the business case.
When a customer does not know exactly what size system they require, then IHI can provide the analytical service to optimize the system for the best financial return. Working with the customer, IHI will help to define the system dispatch strategy within the defined constraints of the project. Using the ES/Analyzer tool, IHI will identify the optimal system specifications. The result will be a summary report which includes an investment grade pro-forma outlining project profitability, IRR and ROI. The ES/Analyzer is a unique software tool incorporating years of experience and knowledge that will provide the customer with the best solution available.
The operational component of ESWare is the ES/Pilot. This software runs the control loop provided by the design team and, depending on the selected mode of operation, dispatches the distributed components to deliver a system-level response to ISO inputs, customer inputs, equipment limits and other relevant data.
With ES/Pilot, changing the response of the system to autonomous operation is as straightforward as designing a Matlab® Simulink model and plugging it into the tool. This permits rapid re-deployment of the ESS based on changing market conditions without major development or implementation expense.
The purpose of any system is to ultimately provide the most energy efficient results and thus produce the best financial return possible. This is exactly what the ES/Optimizer is intended to do. Understanding the Energy Storage System’s current State of Charge (SOC), the ES/Optimizer will then consider many additional inputs from outside sources. Examples of these inputs include:
